One UMMS Staffing Center Becomes Permanent Resource

August 25, 2021

Because of the success of the One UMMS Staffing Pool in meeting our significant staffing needs since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Staffing Pool will transition to a permanent UMMS resource renamed the One UMMS Staffing Center (OUSC). The Center will prioritize hiring staff to fill roles that are primarily involved in the direct care of patients to support patient care across the University of Maryland Medical System.

Since the launch of the Staffing Pool in spring 2020, more than 1,500 new team members were added to the UMMS team in a PRN or temporary capacity and worked 550,000 hours or 264 FTEs. Staffing pool team members supported most member organizations, the Lord Baltimore Hotel and the Baltimore Convention Center Field Hospital, and multiple testing, infusion and vaccine sites where Maryland citizens were tested for or vaccinated against COVID-19. The staffing pool demonstrated how we are stronger when we work together as a System.

We will continue to work to make the Center the best available resource to meet our need for skilled team members. Additionally, UMMS will appoint an Advisory Council in fall 2021 to provide input and guidance to OUSC leadership regarding policies, practices and shared processes.

More information and open positions in the Staffing Center will be posted on the UMMS job site soon. (We are not currently recruiting for OUSC roles.) To request support from the Staffing Center contact them by email at UMMS_Staffing_Center@umm.edu or phone at 667-233-5900.

FAQ

Yes. We welcome all qualified applicants, particularly those recommended by current UMMS team members.

While some specialty outsourcing may continue to be managed by individual member organizations or departments, Staffing Center leadership anticipates that by spring 2022, the OUSC will begin managing most nursing contract labor for member organizations.

UMMS established a Staffing Center to field staffing requests, screen applicants and interview candidates. Assignments are coordinated with member organizations based on need and the experience of the staff being deployed. Managers will interview and select hires for contract labor. Additionally, managers will work alongside OUSC staff to select team members for long-term assignments.
