CLINICAL EXCELLENCE

Through the eyes of our patients, team members and providers, we will continuously improve our organization to achieve high reliability in patient care and outcomes. To maximize the value of our care, we will pursue a culture of zero harm and excel in delivering the highest levels of quality and safety. By engaging in and with our communities, we will become the System that offers levels of clinical excellence that will be the hallmark of our profession.

ONE UMMS IN ACTION

Sepsis has been one of the leading causes of deaths in hospitals worldwide, and UMMS is taking action to combat that. Learn how the Sepsis Program is developing a consistent practice across the System to decrease morbidity and mortality secondary to sepsis.

A new clinical pathway implemented across the System has standardized the plan of care for the more than 1,300 patients undergoing colorectal surgery at UMMS hospitals each year. The tool is the first of many pathways to be developed as part of the System’s commitment to encouraging innovation and the implementation of effective and sustainable models of care that lead to enhanced quality of care for our patients.

With the goal of keeping patients healthy and out of the hospital, a team of UMMS clinicians, pharmacists, care managers and nurses are working together on a standard education and treatment plan for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). The CHF Pathway group is one of several teams focused on clinical areas across the System. A new handbook for patients with CHF is one of the first outcomes of the team’s work.
