Thank you for volunteering to participate in this critical program. The information on this page will ensure you are prepared for your first One UMMS shift. Please review the Orientation Materials and Logistical Details carefully before arriving onsite.

Orientation Materials

All team members volunteering for a One UMMS shift must complete an orientation that includes general safety and specific job guidelines. Please complete this training before arriving onsite for your first shift. You will only need to do this once, before your first shift.

Attention UMB/FPI employees:

In addition to the orientation training, please take the following two steps before arriving onsite for your first shift. You will only need to complete these steps once, before your first shift.

  1. Please click here to attest you are volunteering outside of UMB/FPI work hours.
  2. Please submit proof of COVID-19 and flu vaccinations to, 48 hours before arriving onsite for your first shift. If you do not submit proof of vaccination you will not be able to volunteer. If you have already signed up for a shift and you are within the 48 hour window, please include the shift you will be working in the subject line of your email.

Logistical Details

You have signed up for a One UMMS shift at UM REHABILITATION & ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTE. The information below is specific to that location. If you sign up for additional shifts at other locations, you will be provided with new logistical details.

Dress Code

Casual, professional attire. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement. Jeans are not permitted but sneakers are fine. All shoes must have closed toes and closed heels (no sandals).

Parking & Meet-Up

UM REHABILITATION & ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTE is located at 2200 Kernan Dr Baltimore, MD 21207. Once you arrive, please park in our visitor lot, (located on the right side as you enter campus) in any space not designated for physicians or patients.

Proceed to the Main Entrance of the hospital (not the sidewalk leading to the flagpole).  When you arrive at the Front Desk in the Main Entrance, please ask for directions to the library on the 2nd floor. We will meet you in the library when you arrive.

Arrival Time

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your shift to allow time to park and report to the library.


You will be provided with and fit tested for a N95 mask before your first shift. Our Clinical Practical and Professional Development (CPPD) staff will provide you with PPE training and demonstrations during the CPPD Orientation before your first shift. If you have questions or need a replacement while onsite, please don’t hesitate to reach out to someone on your unit.


We will direct you to a Kronos clock for pin punching. We will review the pin punching instructions included in your orientation packet.


You are welcome to get food from our cafeteria or bring food with you. Terrace Café is open from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm and the Coffee/Gift Shop is open from 7 am to 7 pm. Each unit has a microwave for reheating.

You are welcome to eat in the unit’s staff lounge or the cafeteria for designated meal breaks. Please do not eat with others. Team members must maintain social distancing when eating/unmasked.
