Thank you for volunteering to participate in this critical program. The information on this page will ensure you are prepared for your first One UMMS shift. Please review the Orientation Materials and Logistical Details carefully before arriving onsite.

Orientation Materials

All team members volunteering for a One UMMS shift must complete an orientation that includes general safety and specific job guidelines. Please complete this training before arriving onsite for your first shift. You will only need to do this once, before your first shift.

Attention UMB/FPI employees:

In addition to the orientation training, please take the following two steps before arriving onsite for your first shift. You will only need to complete these steps once, before your first shift.

  1. Please click here to attest you are volunteering outside of UMB/FPI work hours.
  2. Please submit proof of COVID-19 and flu vaccinations to volunteer_services@umm.edu, 48 hours before arriving onsite for your first shift. If you do not submit proof of vaccination you will not be able to volunteer. If you have already signed up for a shift and you are within the 48 hour window, please include the shift you will be working in the subject line of your email.

Logistical Details

You have signed up for a One UMMS shift at UM SHORE EMERGENCY CENTER AT QUEENSTOWN. The information below is specific to that location. If you sign up for additional shifts at other locations, you will be provided with new logistical details.

Dress Code

Casual, professional attire. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement. Jeans are not permitted but sneakers are fine. All shoes must have closed toes and closed heels (no sandals).

Parking & Meet-Up

UM SHORE EMERGENCY CENTER AT QUEENSTOWN is located at 115 Shoreway Drive, Queenstown, MD 21658. Once you arrive, please park in the lot adjacent to the Emergency Department entrance.

Proceed to the Emergency Department entrance. Ask the security personnel on duty to call your unit contact and they will meet you in the lobby.

Arrival Time

Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your shift to allow time to park and report to the Emergency Department entrance.

PPE

You will be provided with and fit tested for a N95 mask before your first shift. Our Clinical Practical and Professional Development (CPPD) staff will provide you with PPE training and demonstrations during the CPPD Orientation before your first shift. If you have questions or need a replacement while onsite, please don’t hesitate to reach out to someone on your unit.

Timekeeping

We will direct you to a Kronos clock for pin punching. We will review the pin punching instructions included in your orientation packet.

Meals

There is no cafeteria is on-site and nearby food is minimal, but there is a Wawa on the other side of Route 50 that is easily accessible by car.

You are welcome to bring food with you to eat in the unit’s staff lounge or conference rooms designated for meal breaksEach unit has a microwave for reheating. Please do not eat with others. Team members must maintain social distancing when eating/unmasked.
